SEMINAR

NOVEMBER 3, 2021 Authenticity and Empathy – A recipe for success – INTI had the honor to invite Rebecca M.Orme, Managing Director, Legal, SEA, FEDEx Express to share her recipe for success. During this event, I was a moderator including a 2nd moderator Gaby. The session started with Ms. Rebecca sharing her early life living in a small town and how she transitioned into adulthood. Ms. Rebecca's journey was not always a smooth ride as there were periods where she too struggled but in the face of adversity, she was able to stand back up and forge herself a career in Law. It was such tenacity and open mindset that she held that was truly astonishing for the youths to learn. She had her fair share of uncertainty and shifts in her career as she had worked in different places from being a lawyer in New York to managing a team of diverse people in Singapore. In that, she emphasized her values on what makes us human which is our empathy and compassion to relate. She also reminded the significance of being authentic and bringing that into the workplace, especially for the youth as there are always calls for being assertive despite the power dynamic at the start of each journey. "Be gracious, be kind, be you", said Ms. Rebecca. Her 3 takeaways for the students are: be authentic, have compassion and empathy, listen to relate. All in all, this was a fruitful session for INTI students. As one of the top 10 students, Michelle Yee stated that " Thank you, Ms. Adiba, Ms. Yvonne, and the whole team for organizing this event as well as presenting this wonderful opportunity." Likewise from Ms. Rebecca, she commented “Thank you all so much for the opportunity, honestly, the students are so inspiring. It was such an honor.
